Permaculture Theory Bundle 2026 (English)
An in-depth 40-hour online permaculture theory course exploring ecology, resilience, regenerative design, governance and low-tech systems. Combining systems thinking with practical reflection, this bundle can contribute toward Permaculture Design Certification when paired with the practical training pathway.
40 Hours of In-Depth Ecological and Social Theory
Permaculture is more than a gardening method. It is a systemic design approach for creating resilient ways of living within planetary boundaries. This 40-hour theory bundle offers a deep exploration of the ecological, social, cultural and economic foundations of permaculture, combining scientific understanding, critical reflection and practical design thinking.
Designed for both beginners and experienced practitioners, this course provides the conceptual tools needed to understand ecosystems, energy flows, soils, water, governance, food systems, community resilience and regenerative cultures. Participants are invited to move beyond isolated “green solutions” and develop a holistic understanding of how human systems can reintegrate with the living world.
Throughout the program, we explore topics such as:
• Ecological principles and systems thinking
• Soil health, water cycles and ecosystem dynamics
• Climate disruption, energy descent and resilience
• Agroecology and regenerative food systems
• Circular economies and low-tech approaches
• Community governance and collective organisation
• Social permaculture and conflict transformation
• Ethics, design methodologies and long-term stewardship
• Bioregional thinking and territorial resilience
• Critical perspectives on sustainability and development
The course combines lectures, discussions, case studies, collaborative exercises and reflective practices. Rather than promoting fixed recipes, it encourages participants to develop contextual intelligence and the capacity to design adaptive, place-based responses.
This theory bundle can be followed independently or combined with our practical permaculture training bundle. Together, both pathways can lead toward a Permaculture Design Certification (PDC), depending on the chosen format and completion requirements.
Ideal for:
• Educators and facilitators
• Farmers and gardeners
• Architects and designers
• Community organisers
• Students and researchers
• Municipal actors and public institutions
• Anyone seeking grounded pathways toward ecological and social resilience
No prior experience is required. Only curiosity, openness and a willingness to engage critically with the challenges of our time.
Format
