What an adventure to move during lockdown…
We had planned to arrive at our new home in April, but with the lockdown redrawing the boundaries of what was possible, we could only move on May 6th, when we had to leave our house in Beckerich.
We arrived at the beginning of the second month of drought, which was good for only one reason: we had roof leaks, and we hadn’t managed to get a roofer to repair them before the lockdown started. The trees, however, really don’t like climate change… :-/
The first evenings spent here were intense, with spectacular views, splendid birdsong, and relaxing silence (amid the surrounding chaos).
We also discovered various issues with the house upon arrival, which didn’t help us relax ;-). We’re doing renovations, but we’ll have work to do until the end of the year.
Our neighbor Sean came to support us on the project, and we’re super happy to have his concrete support on the ground. Thank you!
We quickly started the vegetable garden with 14 strips of 12x1m. It’s a start, but it’s already full. Ben and Mariechen’s tomato plants are already eagerly awaiting the arrival of the greenhouse plastic… Thank you both!
Philippe arranged a meeting with the aldermen… which was rather positive. We’ve prepared 95% of the project file that explains the whole context, now it’s just a matter of refining it and sending it.
We’re slowly getting to know some people from Arlon. We have a strong desire to establish roots in the region and collaborate with existing associations or businesses. Natalie from Tribal Souk visited us, as did Géraldine and Fabien. Louise and Arnaud supported us on an online training project (safe travels and see you soon, friends), and Valérie told us a bit about the Milan community garden.
We’re also preparing the facilitated process for integrating shared housing residents. We think we can start this group process in September. 🙂 Hey there, Laurence!
We’re working on many different levels simultaneously… we go from calculating the number of boards needed for dry toilets to writing the file for the municipality, organizing our work around this new reality, designing the project, exchanging with people who have already created eco-sites, tidying up etc etc… it’s intense but we’re very very happy! 🙂
